Petrochimi Bandar Imam fails to reach finals

TEHRAN, Oct. 16 (MNA) – Iran’s Petrochimi Bandar Imam conceded a semifinal defeat against Xinjiang Flying Tigers of China to miss finals of 2016 FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Chinese city of Chenzhou.

The second semifinal encounter at the 25th edition of Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) Asia Champions Cup was competed on Saturday at the Chenzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in the south central Chinese city of Chenzhou with the Iranian squad suffering a loss in the hands of host country rivals 86-90.

Given the semifinal loss to China’s Xinjiang Flying Tigers (25–28, 20–25, 24–20 and 21–13), Petrochimi Bandar Imam lost its hopes of winning the Asian title and will take on Al-Ahli of the United Arab Emirates today in an attempt to bag FIBA Asia Cup bronze medal.

Also on Saturday, another semifinal match was held Al-Riyadi of Lebanon and Al-Ahli of the United Arab Emirates with the Lebanese side pulling out a 107-79 victory in order to secure a place in the final showdown.

The 25th edition of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup started in Chenzhou, China, on October 8 and will conclude today on October 16.
